Ms. Sharon Hicks
Hurt Park Family:
As you may know, Hurt Park Elementary School was built in 1961, and it is an honor to announce our 55th Anniversary. I am proud to be a part of the Hurt Park family as the principal for this anniversary year, and I am committed to continuing the strong community history and school pride. This 2016-2017 year will bring promising success by us working together and putting students first.
One of our goals is to increase the love of reading for our students. We encourage each family to read at home daily. Reading at least twenty minutes a day will help students strengthen reading skills and it will positively impact academic performance.
The teachers and staff are dedicated to helping each child achieve their best, and it is evident that we value and care for all of our students. Each lesson is designed to prepare them for higher education through rigorous assignments and hands-on experiences.
I am very proud of being a graduate of Roanoke City Public Schools. Prior to coming to Hurt Park, my educational experiences includes; Supervisor of Gifted Education and Advanced Academic Programs, Instructional Coach, and a classroom teacher within Roanoke City Schools. I received my Masters in Educational Leadership from Radford University and my Bachelor of Arts from Roanoke College. I have also received certification in Gifted Education, as well as a career and mentor teacher.
We would like to invite you to join our school volunteer program and PTA. Together, we can make a difference in the education of our students.
